Show Your Support for Disability Services in Connecticut

Your voice can protect essential supports that ensure independence, dignity, and person-centered care.

Why Your Voice Matters

Families fight hard to get services. We fight hard to keep them.
Because these supports are not guaranteed, they can disappear without strong community advocacy — and that’s why your voice is essential.

Advocating for the Support of Adults with Disabilities

Journey Found’s advocacy efforts focus on educating legislators about our people and the impact of our adult disability and Autism support programs. We encourage our family leaders and supporters to speak out about our programs and issues impacting people with disabilities. We work together with the people we support, families, colleagues and our Connecticut legislators to ensure that funding remains in place and that the rights of people with intellectual disabilities are preserved.

Movers & Shakers is Journey Found’s virtual self-advocacy group designed to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to use their voices, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

The group provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants can connect with peers, discuss issues that matter to them, learn about their rights and responsibilities, and strengthen their self-advocacy skills. Through engaging discussions, educational presentations, guest speakers, and peer-led conversations, members explore topics such as community inclusion, employment, relationships, decision-making, self-determination, accessibility, civic engagement, and disability rights.

Movers & Shakers meets virtually on the third Tuesday of each month, making participation accessible regardless of geographic location. While the group focuses on empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, all are welcome to participate and support the mission, including family members, guardians, support staff, peers, advocates, and professionals from other agencies and organizations.

Participants are encouraged to share their experiences, express their opinions, develop leadership skills, and identify ways they can advocate for themselves and others. The group serves as a platform for individuals to build confidence, create connections, and ensure their voices are heard on issues that impact their lives.

The ultimate goal of Movers & Shakers is to foster independence, promote self-determination, encourage leadership, and ensure that the voices of people with disabilities are heard, valued, and represented in conversations that affect their lives and communities.
